Once up and running the turbines will generate up to 42 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 25,000 homes. The remaining 21 towers are set for installation at the Baillie wind farm on the north coast of Scotland.
These will have the power to meet the average energy needs of 35,000 households.
The proposal is sited on rough upland grazing land between the Ogmore Vale and Cwm Clydach Forestry areas, within Strategic Search Area F defined by the Welsh Assembly Government.
Pant y Wal achieved planning permission in 2009 and reached financial close in October 2011 for an initial 14-turbine project, extended to 21 turbines in February 2012 through the acquisition of an adjacent site with a planning consent for an additional 7 turbines.
The wind farm is located near to Blackmill and spans both Bridgend and Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Councils. On completion it will comprise 21 Nordex N90 2.5MW turbines. Civil works are being carried out by Walters U.K. Ltd, electrical works by PowerSystems U.K. and the grid connection by Western Power Distribution Ltd.
