9,040 photovoltaic energy panels on a 4.5ha site at Clearwell Farm near Michaelston-y-Fedw, between Cardiff and Newport, would generate 2MW of electricity at peak times, enough to power up to 700 homes.
The solar farm is to be operated by London-based Heritage Energy, who expect it to take eight weeks to build. Renewable energy consultancy Aspire Planning, which advised the landowner on the scheme, previously secured permission for two 30-metre wind turbines at Clearwell.
