Solar PV Inspections – Commercial
To ensure any energy system is performing as expected it needs periodic inspections. Solar PV systems are not exempt from this requirement.
Infrared thermal imaging technology offers an efficient and accurate way to spot damaged solar cells, even in large arrays.
Infra Red thermal scan of a Solar Farm ?
What shows up on a thermal image includes cracked cells, poor tabbing soldering, poor header bar soldering, faulty diodes, moisture penetration, shading and bird droppings all of which affects the performance of the module. The problem is they all have a larger or lesser impact depending on the degree of resistance caused by the poor connections. A poor module in any string of modules can have a major impact on the overall energy generation performance.
IR Heat Mapping can spot these problems through a comprehensive solar power scan. We look at all aspects of a photovoltaic system, from cells to combiner boxes and inverters. Solar panels need maintenance like any other piece of equipment and infrared is an efficient and cost effective way to keep the system operating at its best.
Information provided following a Thermogrphic Scan
Each image taken during our inspections of solar farms and commercial roof tops would provide the following details:
- The date and time of taking the thermographic image
- The exact description of the object
- The exact description of the location in the PV plant, which allows the client a clear identification of the abnormality. Row, position and asset ID number
- In the case of any immediate action the site manager is generally notified on the spot. This image is then ‘Red Flagged’
- To provide temperature differences of any thermal irregular spots in comparison to the temperature of a regular spot
