 Comment

Blyth Harbour Wind Farm was one of the first wind farms to be built in England. In 1993 it was a far sighted local initiative which established Wansbeck, Blyth Valley and the North East at the forefront of the development of renewable energy long before the threats of global warming and climate change were widely recognised.

July 2008: The worlds two most powerful wind turbines, with blades up to 500ft in diameter, are to be built on the Northumberland coast in clear view of northeast Englands most renowned shorelines.

The 9 turbines have now been replaced with a single 3.4MW REPower turbine, largest onshore wind turbine in the UK.

Three further 3.4M104 turbines are set to be erected as part of a second repowering phase at Blyth Harbour. The re-development has been described as vital to securing future investment in the Port of Blyth.
