proposed 147MW extension
Thanet array was officially opened on 23 September 2010 as the largest offshore wind farm in the world. It is visible from most of the coast of Thanet.
London Array and Thanet Array are the first projects to be granted consent under round two of UK offshore wind development, expected to produce 5-7GW worth of wind power in total, enough to power 240,000 homes when running to peak effectiveness. Thanet is one of 15 Round 2 wind projects announced by the Crown Estate in January 2004.
The wind farm will be approx 12km off Foreness Point, completion is expected in 2010. Construction is based from Port Ramsgate.
Power will be brought ashore from this wind farm to an existing sub-station at Richborough.
It is currently (Sept 2010) the largest operational offshore wind farm anywhere in the World. It will make a significant contribution to the Government’s national and regional renewable energy targets. Turbine layout shows 40 proposed additional turbines, final layout will be 34 turbines For Wind projects, Subscribed version includes Turbine data, average hub height, average elevation Subscriber Register Subscribed version includes full address details of project site Subscribed version includes associated companies along with address and other contact details, also link to company and crossreference to their projects (still being populated, 90% complete for Solar projects) Subscriber Register Subscribed version includes access to DECC data where it exists for this project.
