Llandinam Wind Farm (Wind , Active) Plans have been unveiled in Powys to turn one of the largest wind farms in the UK into one of the tallest • Repowering and Extension - Erection of 34 proposed wind turbines - Crane hardstanding areas ; - Upgrading and construction of on-site access tracks, turning areas, and associated watercourse crossings and drainage works; - Upgrading of the site access from the A483 road; - Construction of an on-site substation; - Installation of two Permanent Power Performance Assessment (PPA) meteorological masts; and - Installation of on-site underground cabling. The Development will comprise 34 three-bladed horizontal axis wind turbines with a height envelope of up to 122 m to blade tip, and a total installed capacity of up to 102MW. A range of turbines is commercially available; the final choice of turbine will be based upon attaining maximum wind yield from the Development whilst adhering to the technical and environmental constraints posed by the site. The “candidate” turbine, on which assessments have been based, is the Siemens SWT-2.3-82 with a hub height of 80 m and rotor diameter of 82.4 m, thus giving a total height to blade tip of 121.2 m (compared with 45.5 m for the existing turbines). Other turbines of similar physical size with outputs of up to 3 MW are available.
