Brigg (Biomass , Active) Location in the UK : Scotland, Lincolnshire Type of installation: Biomass on/offshore: on Turbines :0 Capacity : 40 MW Approx Date of 1st power generation:
/YES
This plant has been refused planning permission and is subject to a public inquiry sometime in 2011.
Brigg Renewable Energy Project: Will use straw, sourced from local farms, to generate some 300 million units of electricity annually, equivalent to the average needs of 65,000 households. The ash will be returned to the farms to be ploughed in as a fertilizer.
The generation of an estimated quarter of a million tonnes of carbon dioxide could be avoided each year.
While the soil conditioning aspect of straw being ploughed back into the soil will be lost, the overall level of sustainability within this project is high, however there will be a high volume of lorry traffic created by this scheme, apparently an alternative, being the use of barges has been dismissed.
An application for planning permission to build Brigg Renewable Energy Plant was first submitted in 2008. After consultation, these plans were withdrawn to allow Eco2 to reconsider its proposals for dealing with flood risk at the site.
Eco2 re-submitted a planning application which has taken into account Environment Agency concerns surrounding flood mitigation. The new plans included flood plain compensation and a surface water storage system that are designed specifically for the Brigg REP site. If the plans go ahead, the scheme would reduce the extent of flooding in the local area. Fears over green power plant plan (2008)Plans for a "green" power station near BRIGG in North Lincolnshire have sparked protests from local residents.
STRAW POLL IS ALL WE CAN OFFER (Feb 2010) It was good of the Scunthorpe Telegraph to inform us this week that the BRIGG Biomass power plant scheme has been amended and re-submitted for council consideration.
Planning Application (Resubmission) This page contains a listing of every document that formed part of the BRIGG planning application pack. The document comprised four volumes:
Cameron backs BRIGG biomass plant (2008) Conservative Party leader David Cameron MP said he supported a planned biomass in BRIGG, when he attended a special public meeting last night.
Anti-biomass campaign banner stolen (2009) CAMPAIGNERS who are fighting to block Eco2's plans to build the BRIGG biomass plant say they are not going to give up – despite having all of their banners removed.
