Plans to build the worlds biggest biomass power station fuelled by wood chips have been given the go-ahead by the UK government. Construction is planned to commence in the second quarter of 2008 and last about 32 months, full operation beginning in 2011.

Who says it's green to burn woodchips?
One of the new plants – the world's largest – is now being built at PORT TALBOT in South Wales, and by 2012 it will supply over half Wales's one million homes, and, claim its owners, Prenergy, displace 3.5 million tons of CO2 emissions a year that would have been produced by older power stations.

Protesters insist wood-chip power plant cannot meet its emission limits
Plans to establish the Prenergy plant at PORT TALBOT, which could power 500,000 homes, took a huge step forward this week after Environment Agency Wales granted it a licence.
